LETTER OF

CHARLES G. FINNEY

1849

To S. Evans

11 December 1849

[Manuscript in John Rylands University Library of Manchester, Raymond English MSS, Box 376, Number 670. Thomas Raffles, Original Letters - Authors]

Birmingham 11th Dec. 1849.

Rev. S. Evans.

Dear Brother

I have just recd yours

of yesterday & must reply that my

engagements are such that

I can not comply with your

request. My hands are more than

full of labors & I can not

consistently engage to do any

more at least for some weeks

to come. Were I able I should

be happy to accept your

invitation, but as it is I

must decline. With sentiments

of fraternal regard I am

Yours in the bonds of the

blessed gospel.

C. G. Finney.

[A covering letter to Thomas Raffles reads:]

My Dear Dr.

I deferred sending this

until now that I may feel

assured that you were at

home.

Yours very respectfully

S. Evans
